How is the YouTube playlist length calculated?

Our calculator extracts the playlist ID from your link, calls the YouTube Data API to list all video IDs in that playlist (with pagination past fifty items), then loads each video's contentDetails.duration value. Those ISO 8601 durations are converted to seconds, summed, and split by playback speed for the table you see above.

Does this tool work with private YouTube playlists?

No. This calculator only works for public or unlisted playlists the API can read. Private playlists hide items from third-party apps, so total duration cannot be computed.

Is it free and what playlists work?

Yes, it's free. Paste a valid YouTube playlist link and we'll calculate total watch time in seconds, minutes, and hours. Public and Unlisted playlists work; Private playlists and system lists like Watch Later are not supported.
