Flax

An intelligent nutrition and hydration tracking app for Nigerian and West African users, featuring an AI assistant named Noura that scans meals, estimates macros, and answers food questions personalised to the user's health profile.

Log local meals, scan your plate, and let Noura guide your nutrition goals. Flax is solving the gap between wanting to eat well and actually knowing how to do it day to day, specifically for people in Nigeria and West Africa where that gap is wider than most apps acknowledge. And also consistently staying hydrated.

Most nutrition tracking apps were built for burgers and salads.

If you eat jollof, egusi, amala, nkwobi or suya in Nigeria and West Africa, you’re forced to guess, log manually, or quit entirely.

The tools don’t speak your food language. Popular tools like myFitnessPal among others aren't solving that problem.

How Flax fixes it with AI nutrition assistant named Noura.

Daily calorie targets are auto calculated using Mifflin-St Jeor equation for BMR. And goal adjustment applied on top.

Daily water target. I used National Academies figures. male 3000ml base. female 2200ml base. Then activity additions up to 1000ml.

1. Log what you actually eat.

The regional food catalogue, Noura's ability to estimate nutrition for any described dish, and the camera scan all exist to remove the friction of logging food that has no barcode and no entry in a standard database. A home-cooked pot of egusi soup should not require a nutrition degree to log.

2. Decide what to eat next

Food decision fatigue is real. The Spin mechanic gives you different meal options based on your goal, allergens, what’s in your kitchen, and what you’ve eaten. It is the structured answer to "What should I eat now", it removes that mental load.

3. Building the habit.

Hydration and calorie targets are auto calculated from your body, which you can also set manually if you have a target. Two separate streaks for food + water. Push notifications for reminder. Because results come from consistency, not one perf.
