Cleverboek

Cleverboek - Free Accounting Software for Freelancers and Small Businesses

Cleverboek is a Dutch accounting platform built for freelancers (zzp'ers) and small and medium-sized businesses that want to manage their bookkeeping without the complexity, or the cost, of traditional accounting software. It brings invoicing, receipt processing, bank reconciliation, and VAT filing together in one clear, easy-to-use dashboard, so business owners always have real-time insight into their finances without needing an accounting background.

Key Features

Unlimited Free Invoicing

Send as many invoices as you need, five, fifty, or five hundred a month, with no caps, no hidden fees, and no forced upgrades. Invoices are fully branded with your own logo and colors, sent automatically with iDEAL payment links so clients can pay in one click, and available in multiple languages and currencies. Cleverboek also supports the UBL e-invoicing standard, making it easy to invoice government agencies and municipalities. All invoices are securely stored for the legally required seven years and can be retrieved or resent at any time.

Automatic Receipt Scanning

Upload or photograph receipts and let Cleverboek's recognition engine extract the amount, date, and vendor automatically. No more manual data entry or lost paper receipts.

Smart Bank Reconciliation

Cleverboek connects with all major Dutch banks, including ING, Rabobank, ABN AMRO, bunq, Knab, Triodos, SNS, and ASN, via the secure PSD2 standard, as well as payment services like Mollie, Stripe, PayPal, Tikkie, and Wise. Every bank transaction is automatically compared against uploaded purchase invoices by amount, date, and vendor, and matched with a single confirmation click. The system learns from every match, so recurring suppliers get booked more automatically over time. Transactions without a matching invoice can still be booked to the correct ledger account, with a reminder when a receipt is needed for VAT deduction purposes.

One-Click VAT Filing

Cleverboek automatically calculates VAT owed and prepares the return, removing one of the most time-consuming and error-prone parts of running a business.

Flexible Support

Business owners can manage their entire administration themselves, or get personal help from Cleverboek's in-house accounting team through the premium plan, using the exact same software, so there's no need to switch tools or migrate data.

Pricing

Cleverboek offers a genuinely free plan: €0 per month, unlimited invoices, unlimited bank transactions, receipt scanning, and one-click VAT filing, all included, no credit card required. For businesses that want personal guidance, the Premium plan is €19 per month and adds direct chat support from a qualified accounting team, on top of everything in the free plan. There are no tiered feature restrictions; pricing is based purely on transaction volume, not on artificially limiting functionality.

Security and Compliance

All data is stored securely on servers located in the Netherlands, and the platform is fully GDPR-compliant (AVG-proof), giving Dutch and EU business owners confidence that their financial data is handled according to local and European regulations.

Who It's For

Cleverboek is designed for freelancers, sole proprietors, and small to medium-sized businesses in the Netherlands who want an accounting tool that's simple enough to use without training, yet powerful enough to replace spreadsheets, paper receipts, and expensive legacy software. Whether you're just starting out and sending your first invoices, or running a growing business with dozens of monthly bank transactions, Cleverboek scales with you without forcing you into a more expensive plan.

Why Businesses Choose Cleverboek

Unlike many accounting tools that limit invoice numbers or lock core features behind paywalls, Cleverboek gives every user the full feature set from day one. There are no surprise upgrade prompts right when a business starts to grow. Combined with automatic bank matching, smart receipt recognition, and one-click VAT returns, Cleverboek removes the three tasks that typically consume the most time in small business bookkeeping: invoicing, transaction matching, and tax filing, and hands that time back to the entrepreneur.
