Why is there a limit on playlist size?

The YouTube Data API returns playlist items in pages of up to fifty videos. This tool follows each nextPageToken until all IDs are collected, then loads durations in batches of fifty. Very large playlists need more requests and may hit API quotas.

Q: How is the YouTube playlist length calculated?

We read the playlist ID from your link, list every video in the playlist with the YouTube Data API, fetch each video duration in ISO 8601 format, convert those to seconds, and add them up. Playback speed rows divide that total so you see how long the same playlist takes at faster speeds.

Q: Does this tool work with private YouTube playlists?

No. Only public or unlisted playlists that the API can list will work. Private playlists block metadata, so duration cannot be totaled.

How is the YouTube playlist length calculated?

Our calculator extracts the playlist ID from your link, calls the YouTube Data API to list all video IDs in that playlist (with pagination past fifty items), then loads each video's contentDetails.duration value. Those ISO 8601 durations are converted to seconds, summed, and split by playback speed for the table you see above.

Does this tool work with private YouTube playlists?

No. This calculator only works for public or unlisted playlists the API can read. Private playlists hide items from third-party apps, so total duration cannot be computed.
